Today the Altai territory is a large scientific and educational centre of Siberia. Works of Altai scientists in the fields of cosmic rays, semiconductors, construction materials have been acknowledged by the world.

There are 19 scientific and 3 design and survey enterprises, 11 research and engineering subdivisions in the industrial enterprises, 19 industry research institutes. Specialist are prepared by 8 state and 2 private universities and 22 local branches of state universities. 94650 students are taught there in 175 special subjects. The teaching staff comprises 4577 professors including 569 Doctors of Science and 2400 candidates of science.

There are 49 specialized secondary schools (41 of them are state and 8 are private), 16 local brunches of technical secondary schools. Students of specialized secondary schools comprise 45 thousand people. They study 102 special subjects.

Several educational establishments have classes in the English and German languages. Most of Altai’s universities cooperate with the leading universities of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, France, Switzerland and Sweden.

The primary vocational education system of the Altai territory includes 69 training colleges, 2 educational and industrial centres, an organization of artwork, the sport organization “Yunost Rossii”.

About 35 thousand people study in primary vocational institutions as state-financed and paying students.

136 special subject are taught in primary vocational institutions. Over 70% of students study profession connected with industry, construction, agriculture, transport and communication.
