Industry is the major sector of the Altai territory economy and it comprises the biggest part in the territory budget revenues. About 40% of the gross regional product is provided by 2000 industrial companies of the Altai territory where 400 companies are big and middle.
The main indicator of industrial work – the industrial production index comprised 104,4% in 2006. In 2006 Altai industrial companies manufactured products for 105,9 billion rubles. The amount of unprofitable companies in processing industry shortened by 10%.
The number of workers in the sphere of industry in 2006 comprised 173 thousand people and this number increases.
The major field in the economy development of the Altai territory is mining industry, complex ore mining development. In 2005 Rubtsovskiy mine was set up; a concentrating mill with the year output of 400 thousand tons was open in May 2006; Zarechenskiy mine was set up in June 2007.
The realization of programmes in mining industry in 2007 – 2008 is planned to deliver profit of 10 billion rubles.
