Special protection nature objects and territories

To save the natural state of high-value nature complexes and objects it is necessary to create a system of special protection nature territories. The Altai territory has a state nature reserve “Tigigekskiy”, 36 state nature wildlife preserves of regional importance, 140 nature monuments of regional importance. Total area of special protection territories comprise 904,2 thousand hectares, about 5% of the Altai territory. The area of the state nature reserve “Tigigekskiy” is 40,7 thousand hectares with the conservation zone of 26,3 thousand hectares. According to the world standards, 10% of the territory of regions with developed agriculture and industry (where the Altai territory belongs) should be reserves and 40% of the territory should be protected. Special protection nature territories have most typical, standard and unique nature complexes and objects. The reserve territory is a shelter for plants and animals where they are out of direct anthropogenic influence. The state nature reserve “Tigigekskiy” has over 10 species of animals listed in the Red Book of Russia, 14 relict species of plants, 26 precinctive species of plants and 28 species of plants listed in the book “Rare and threatened plants of Siberia”. The protection area of the state nature reserve “Tigigekskiy” has 7 nature monuments of local importance: Tigeriyskaya fortress, Semipesherskaya mountain, Strashnoy ravine, Yashur cave, Siluriyskiy cut, Strashnaya cave, Logovo Giyeny cave. Keeping the natural state of natural environment, the reserve and wildlife preserves secure landscape and biodiversity, prevent from negative processes leading to biosphere degradation, and are fundamental elements in the ecological balance system and stable development of the Altai territory. Special protection nature territories are important for keeping valuable and significant ecosystem components and for healthy recreation of people, keeping health of the present generation and the gene pool of future generations. Different types of nature reserves are the ecological reserve of the Altai territory. Development of special protection nature territories restrains deterioration of environmental conditions.
